If one of your New Year’s resolutions was to read the Bible to Get Closer to God, that is awesome!

Updated: Feb 16, 2020

In December, nearly half of Americans made at least one resolution, and studies show that fewer than half of those are successful at keeping them for six (6) or even three (3) months. We are now at the end of January, and a few surveys indicate that most resolutions fall into four categories, one of which is Getting Closer to God. It is now the end of January, how are you doing?

If one of your New Year’s resolutions was to read the Bible more to Get Closer to God, that is awesome! We know that reading the Bible regularly can have such a positive and will have a life-transforming impact on us. After all, God’s Word is described as “living and active” and sharp enough to “divid[e] soul and spirit, joints and marrow” (Hebrews 4:12). James says that “the implanted word” can “save your souls” (James 1:21), and God says in Isaiah that His Word “will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11).

If you resolve to keep the resolution to read your Bible more, I encourage you to follow a reading plan. There are several apps and websites out there for us to tap into. Send a message, and I can help recommend a few plans. A reading plan enabled me to stay consistent, and I saw my desire increase not to keep the resolution, but to get closer to my Abba Father and through His Word.

If increasing your reading and study time was not a resolution, it’s never too late to start.
